Finance Ministry denies plans to raise coal MET in Oct–Dec

MOSCOW, Apr 11 (PRIME) -- The Finance Ministry denies plans to raise the mineral extraction tax (MET) for coal in October–December, Deputy Minister Alexei Sazanov told reporters on Tuesday.

"We did not decide to charge anything, let the government decide on this. We are just saying that they (coal producers) paid an elevated MET in the first quarter (January–March), which is why we excluded them from a one-time budget contribution. The government will decide on them later," Sazanov said.

Business daily Kommersant reported on Monday that the ministry could raise the MET in the coal industry in case of solid financial results of the companies. A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed the information for PRIME.
